The team of Community Engagement Managers leads how the agency expands who we engage through building relationships and identifying opportunities to lift up the voices of underserved and historically marginalized populations. Our target populations for this position are housing advocates and business owners and their employees. This person will report to the Deputy Director of Community Engagement. Responsibilities Build and maintain strong relationships with housing advocates, business owners, and their employees to support the work of the Planning Department and bring these groups into planning and project engagement processes. Create new communication pathways to engage these populations and generate interest in our work. Explain the importance of the Planning Department’s work to diverse communities, especially those who may not see its relevance. Develop creative engagement strategies using social media, blogs, newsletters, videos, and storytelling to broaden participation. Support inclusive community engagement strategies across various divisions within the Planning Department, including Planning & Zoning, Real Estate, Development Review, and Urban Design. Create materials and systems to assist staff in engaging target populations and organizations. Facilitate connections with community organizations to reach specific populations when needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Entrance Qualifications At least 5 years of experience in supporting small businesses, housing advocacy, community engagement, community organizing, or related fields. Strong relationship-building and organizational skills. Fluency in Haitian Creole, Mandarin, Cantonese, or other languages beyond English is preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of or willingness to learn about planning, zoning, real estate, and development projects. Strategic thinker with experience creating equitable engagement strategies. Systems thinker capable of developing approaches, tools, and resources for consistent engagement. Effective project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Sensitivity to communicating with diverse language and cultural groups.
