General Summary: Reporting to Executive Director of Programs & Student Success Programs, the Director of Curriculum and Instruction serves as a member of the Pathways & Student Success Programs team and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to design, implement, and assess high-impact, culturally sustaining, and evidence-based programs and services that support students in achieving academic, career, and personal goals through intentional curricular structures.

The Director of Curriculum and Instruction will be responsible for overseeing the development of teaching staff and instructional materials in the academic programs of Pathways & Student Success Programs. The incumbent will work closely with the Executive Director of Programs and Partnerships to train faculty and instructors and to assess materials and ensure equitable student outcomes for all courses offered through the departments. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction will ensure high-quality instruction through educational standards of inclusive excellence that promote equity, transformative practices, and diverse academic literacies as well as strong partnerships and relationships with academic departments across campus. Examples of Duties: Curricular Oversight
  • Work with the Assistant Vice Provost for Pathways & Student Success Programs, Executive Director of Programs and Partnerships, and Senior Director of Programs and Initiatives to assess educational materials and recommend culturally sustaining content, including textbooks, educational technologies, and other tools to teachers, students, and administrators; assist the Executive Director in evaluating and improving curricula and developing effective instructional practices; recommend and implement program-specific curricular modifications.
  • Create teaching materials and curricula in collaboration with other academic staff members (i.e., faculty, department chairs).
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise teaching staff across programs.
  • Assign courses to teaching staff members according to their expertise and to programmatic needs and develop course schedules to deliver them in a timely fashion in collaboration with the Assistant Vice Provost for Pathways & Student Success Programs and Executive Director.
  • Supervise teaching staff and oversee training to ensure program curricula and pedagogies are aligned with course syllabi and program goals; develop and lead professional development workshops, seminars, and classes to help teaching staff members develop instructional strategies.
  • Work with on-campus and off-campus partners to develop and implement onboarding and in-service professional development.
  • Conduct regular teaching staff meetings for all programs to assess student academic progress to ensure retention and completion of courses.
  • Oversee program-specific placement testing, guiding its implementation, and assessing and analyzing placement decisions in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Director of Advising & Student Engagement.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Data and Program Assessment, analyze data regarding student performance to assess potential areas for change and growth and ensure curricular guidelines are aligned with program goals.
  • Build relationships and partnerships with external academic departments and external organizations to keep abreast of curricular innovations and collaborations to elevate the curricular offerings of the department.
Program Administration and Curricular Support
  • Oversee all operations of the collegiate Pathway Program.
  • Work with academic departments to ensure course offerings in different areas of the General Education curriculum for Pathway students.
  • Work with Enrollment Management and New Student and Family Programs to coordinate recruitment and orientation activities.
  • Closely collaborate with the Director of Advising & Student Engagement to maintain records and write regular reports on student retention and outcomes.
  • Oversee implementation of departmental peer tutoring programs for SSS, ELP, and Early College, including recruiting tutors, matching faculty with tutors, and ensuring delivery of high-quality services in line with departmental tutoring model and philosophy.
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of Program Operations, Executive Director of Pathways & Student Success Programs, and Director of Advising & Student Engagement to ensure effective design and implementation of CAPS 112: University Success and advising curricula for Pathway students.
Teaching
  • Teach one to two sections of one of the departments one-credit courses per regular semester.
  • Teach one to two DSP courses over the summer.
  • Implement program-specific curricula to create high-quality courses.
  • Work closely with the Director of Advising & Student Engagement to counsel and advocate for students experiencing academic or personal difficulties.
Supervision
  • Supervise 15-25 Pathways & Student Success Programs peer tutors each semester.
  • Create and monitor peer tutors schedules according to program needs each semester.
  • Oversee regular meetings and professional development events for peer tutors
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in education, pedagogy, TESOL, Applied Linguistics or a related field; PhD preferred.
  • 5-7 years of teaching experience with multilingual students at the pre-collegiate and/or undergraduate level required;
  • Demonstrated experience with curricular administration, including curriculum development and assessment across disciplines;
  • Proficiency with office and database software, learning management systems (LMS), and web conferencing platforms;
  • Ability to manage student data effectively, following FERPA requirements, and to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism;
  • Strong focus and attention to detail;
  • Ability to maintain organized, accurate, and detailed student records, evaluations, and program reports;
  • Aptitude in problem-solving and ability to handle and complete multiple programmatic tasks simultaneously;
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a wide range of institutional stakeholders;
  • Ability to work and effectively cooperate in a team environment; strong interest in working with students, language specialists, and program administrators;
  • Strong commitment to student success.
