Job Name: Machinist


Reports to: Machine Shop Supervisor


Classification: Full Time/Non-Exempt


Job Summary:

The Machinist is responsible for setting up, and operating machinery to produce the necessary parts while maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. Works under general supervision; relies on experience and general instructions to perform the functions of the job.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Determine the proper tools and machining sequences necessary to produce quality parts


• Inspecting finished parts to ensure they are in specified tolerances


• Performs regular, preventative maintenance on machinery in the machine shop


• Maintain a clean and organized work area

• Performs duties consistent with safety rules and procedures

• Performs other duties as required


Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must be able to operate surface grinder, I.D. and O.D grinders; manual lathes; vertical and horizontal milling machines; drill press.


• Must be able to hold tolerances of .0005 or tighter.

• Demonstrate ability to read blueprints, technical diagrams, and operating manuals.


• Must be able to use precision measuring instruments.

• Must be able to read and understand the metric system.

• Must have good verbal and written communication skills.


• Must be able to produce work in a timely-manner and meet deadlines.


• Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


• Must have good organizational skills and be detail-oriented.

• Must be able to work as a team and collaborate with co-workers.

• Ability to work at a rapid pace with accuracy to repair or make parts and minimize production downtime.


• Ability to understand verbal and written instructions in English; ability read and write English

• Ability to identify safety issues in their work area.

• Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues that arise during the manufacturing process.

• Knowledge of mig, tig, arc welding a plus.


• Knowledge of Haas, Mazak and Proto-Trak CNC a plus.


Education and Experience:

• High school education or equivalent required.


• Minimum of 2 years work experience of manual machining experience


• Experience using hand and power tools.


Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 to 75 pounds.


• Requires frequent standing, walking, carrying, climbing, bending, stooping and reaching.
